Otama village, local tradition to wish good harvest

The main industry of Otama village is agriculture, that’s why they have traditional events to wish good harvest. The first one is “Motozoro Taue Dancing”. On the second Sunday of January the people dance to pray good harvest in the year. Another one is Kagura dance held at Kamiharada shrine on the third Sunday of April and October. The Kagura dance is also for wishing good harvest. From these events you can know how important the good harvest is in this village.  

Otama village, “Village on the foot of Mt.Adatara”

Otama village is located at the foot of Mt.Adatara, one of the most famous mountains in Tohoku area. From the village we can see nice view of Mt.Adatara throughout the year. The recommended view point of the mountain and the village is the top of the Mt.Dainakura. From the parking you can climb up to the summit of Mt.Dainakura in about 40min. From the summit of Mt.Dainakura you can have whole view of Otama village. You can notice that many houses planted tall trees on the west side. These trees protect the houses from strong wind from Mt.Adatara. They call these trees “Igune” in local language. Another view spot in the village is nature trail of Endo Waterfall. From the parking you can reach to 2 waterfalls in about 30min. Enjoy your nice nature trip in Otama village!

Kita-Shiobara village, "trekking in the full bloom day lilies"

Recommended activity in this early summer season in Kita-Shiobara village is trekking of Oguni-numa swamp. You can enjoy yellow day lilies in full bloom. Mishima town, "Coming of late spring"

Every year around end of April cherry blossom and dog foot violet come out at the same time. You can enjoy co-starring of the both flowers at Mishima town, one of the most beautiful villages in Japan.

Mishima town, “Sainokami”, traditional festival

In Mishima town there is a traditional festival called “Saiknokami”. People cut the sacred trees from the mountain and decorate them by “Onpei” and “Onpe”, lucky charms made by papers and/or fans. There are 4 types of “Sainokami” in each area of the town. In every evening of January 15 people stand this decorated tree in each area and put the fire. If “Onpe” burn well, they can expect good harvest and good fortune throughout the year.
